DIAMOND MANUFACTURING.

THE ALLEGED DISCOVERY. IS IT A SWINDLE f^. Received Jan. 12, 4.42 p.m.' Paris, January 11. M. Lemonie, an engineer, arrested here on a charge of swindling a South African raining magnate of £64,000, pretending to manufacture diamonds, denies that it is a system of fraud. He claims that he has demonstrated his discovery according to the contract made with Julius Werner, the magnate referred to, who stipulated that a formula for the manufacture of diamonds should be deposited in a London bank and to remain unopened until Lemonie's death, when it was to become Werner's property. The magistrate is considering the question of obtaining and opening the envelope containing the formula.
