THE DOG-TAX.

To the Editor. Sir,-It is gratifying to hear that ft deputation is likely to wait upon the Borough Council re the dog-tax, and it is sincerely to be hoped that the Council in their wisdom may see fit to devise other means of checking the nuisances, of which you complain, than by the imposition of a tax which deals harshly with owners of well-behaved dogs, whilst troublesome dogs which you'make mention of, still roam at large and carry on the same old game. One can scarcely imagine, for instance, a stable proprietor clearing out all his horses because one had turned out bad; or a man who takes an interest in his flardeq destroying his neighbor's because nie own ib not a success.—l am, etc., '■ : W. W. MORTON.
