COURT STATISTICS.

THE YEAR'S RECORDS. We are indebted to Mr W. A. D. Banks, Registrar of the Supreme Court, for the following details of the business transacted in the Courts at New Plymouth. SUPREME COURT. The annual statistics of the Supreme Court show that two men were charged with indecent assault, and one with attempting carnal knowledge. All were acquitted. One female was charged with abandoning a child. The actual number of male persons indicted was 18, being one for attempting carnal knowledge, two for indecent assault, three for theft, one each for false pretences, horse-stealing, breaking and entering, and indecency, and eight for riot and assault. Of these, five were acquitted, and three convicted and sentenced. Proceedings were st iyed in one ease, after the second hearing, and two informations (one against eight men for riot and assault, and one against a woman for abandoning a child) were not pro-1 secuted. Only one fennle was charged fn the court during the year. 111 Divorce—Five petitions for dissolution of marriage were lodged, and two for restitution of conjugal rights. One petition was dismissed, seven dissolutions marriage were decreed, anil a decree in one case for the restitution of conjugal rights.

Civil Business.—ln civil business 41 writs of summons were tested, and discontinuance entered in three cases. One ciSe was tried by special jury and nine by the Judge alone. Findings were in seven cases for the plaintiffs, and three for defendants. Judgments were entered in seven eases after trial, two by confession, and four bv default, the total amount for which judgments were recorded being .-61502 (Is. Four writs of execution were issued.
