The Caator gelding would have made no race of it a season or two ago with this feather-weight, but travelling and hard racing are beginning to tell their tale. It is time the veteran had a spell. Claremont, Confide, Cyrene, and Rotoiti figure amongst the nominations for the Takapuna Jockey Club's meeting which openß on the 25th inst. There is a horse named Tanglefoot entered in the Maiden Hurdles at the above meeting. Tanglefoot" is hardly an appropriate name for a hurdler. After all, what's in a name? A prad bearing the cognomen of The Stiff won a double at the Netherton (Auckland) meeting on New Tear's Day, besides running into third place in another event and falling in the Hurdle Race. He was probably "stiff" after his hard day's exertion, however. Mr T. H. Lowry has tired of the Torpedo gelding Creusot and disposed of him to an Auckland sport last week.

The Orakel Maori races which were to have eventuated on Christmas Day, had to be postponed on account of the weather. The meeting is now booked for Good Friday, which goes to strengthen the opinion that Jack Maori's respect for the days sacred to the pakeha is practically nil. The Royal Artillery filly Artillerie was sold to an Australian buyer last week and goes across the water shortly. Artillerie ran second to St. Aidan on the fourth day of the Auckland meeting and was galloping over everything at the finish. One writer said that her rider "took on a big risk," so we have evidently not seen the best of youngster. The Auckland Racing Club gathered £2IBO In bookmakers' fees during the recent Summer meeting at Ellerslie. "Ikey Mo" would have to shorten the odds a lump to make that up. The Wellington Racing Club's summer meeting opens on Saturday week. Nukutihi has been given 7.8 in the Ruapebu Hack Handicap and 8.4 in the Trentham Hack Welter.

The meeting between Fleetfoot and Armlet in the Nursery Handicap at Wellington should be brimful of interest. The four-furlong journey is more to Armlet's fancy lhan the longer distances she failed in at Auckland, and as Fleetfoot is set to give her slb, an injuggle m.iy he expected. A huge pile of Wanganui and Rangitikei money went North to back A'pa in the Auckland Cnp, and his connections threw out heavily when the "good thing" went down. arranged at Randwick this Easter between Mr Bidwell's flier and the Australian champion three-year-old Mountain King.
