FMPIRE took First Prize at Amberley and Second PrLe at Rangiora as a yearling; as a two-year-old, Second Prize Rt and Second Prize at Rangiora. His sire. Royal Prince, took First Prize at Waimate Show as a two-year-old in 1893; Second Prize as a three-year-oh' at Timaru in 1894; and Second Prize in the All-Aged Class in 1896. His stock took First Prizes in all classes of two-year-olds at Rangiora in 1900; First and Champion at Amberley in yearlings in 1901; First in three-year-olds; Second and Third in yearlings; and also Championship at the Rangiora Show Grounds; Second at Leeston, and Third at Christchurch the same year. VICTORY is a brown horse, with a small white star and black points, foaled in 1903, standing 15.2 and showing great quality and substance. His cannon-bone measures SVi'in. He is a very stylish mover and possessed of a beautiful temper. Ilis sire, Vanity Fair, represents the third generation of a brilliant line of sires, bred by Mr. Bmdctt Coutts, wherein the notorious high-stepping Norfolk blood of old Confidence has been hardened and improved in size, bone, and quality by successive crosses of Trillit's Fireaway, the great Yorkshire sire. His dam, Vanity, is by Vigorous (121.". E. 11.5.8.) out of Lonely (048 E. 11.5.8.). Vigorous is also the grandsire of that celebrated hackney, Iledon Squire (14306), the property of Sir Walter Gilbey, Bart. This famous hackney, besides winning innumerable firsts, championships, gold medals, and challenge cups at the principal horse shows in Europe, scored such phenomenal success at the Paris International Horse Show in 1900, where, besides winning 3 gold medals, 7500 francsin prizes, and being first and champion of his class, he was awarded the Grand Championship for the best horse at the Show, all classes and breeds included.
