NEWSPAPER CRITICISM. London, January 3. The Daily Newß, referring to the Asiatic difficulty, says it is much more urgent for the colonies to assist in defining the status of a British citizen than to dream they are: able to find in trade or imperial defence a basis of imperial unity. The Manchester Guardian declares Lord Elgin is powerless to modify the policy underlying the Transvaal Asiatic Registration l«w. It would be impossible to disallow-the law without imperilling even greater interests than those of the Indian emigrants. TRANSVAAL'S TREATMENT OF INDIAN& VETERANS DEPORTED.
