' RAHOTC A'l'lll.l'.TlC SL'UItTS. (From Our Own Correspondent). The seventh annual meeting under the auspices of the Uahotu Athletic Club took place on New Year's Bay, and proved most successful. Thi« was the first occasion on which the sports had been held on Xew Yefu Vs Day, and many held that date was too early in the j season. Judging from results it seems I a most suitable date. Despite the fact that it rained all the previous day and the weather was threatening in the. morning there was a very good attendance. The weather brightened up later, so that all present, enjoyed themselves. Although the bookmaker* were absent, the attendance was not affected. The

'JLug-of-War. Married v. Single, was won by the married men. Wrestling.--.1, Forsyth 1. Also competed: Uickey, C'ollett Carey, and Cross. Sheep finessing.—For this event there were 173 tickets. The actual weight of the sheep was 1231b, which was guessed by Miss Rchaeffer, CONCFKT AND DANCE.

In the evening a concert au;l dance was held. The committee had engaged some outside rdngers, and theii enterprise was rewarded by a bumper house, C 22 4s being tiiken at the door. An excellent programme was rendered. Songs were given by:—Miss Maud Rimmcr (Auckland), encored; Mks May Neilson (Eltham), Scored; Mws Cooke; Messrs Coombridge (encored), Cooper, and Patterson (encored); duet, Messrs Coombridge and Walters; pianoforte selection, Miss O'Rorkf; recitation, Mr Taylor; violin *olo, Mr Duncan; Irish .Ig, Mr Duncan: overture, Messr- Ktiowle# (piano), Duncan (violin), R, <iiiy (cornet). Mr Wright made an ideal chairman. Misses Jammer, lliekma:i and Mr Knowles arted ari accompanists.

A dance was held at the conclusion, at which was taken. Mr Knowles' orchestra provided the music, whilst Messrs W. Morrow and .J. Hall made capable M.'sC. Dancing was kept up till 3 a.m. with vigor, save during an intermission when supper was lianded round by the committee.
