Dunediii, Lant Night. Inspector O'Brien, in the course of
some remarks to a reporter this evenwmnrknl that he expected the , statistics for Dunedin district for 1907 would show a slight mcre,t«e in minor ottences, but an undoubted falling-off in cases of more serious crime. He emphasiscd the beneficial effects of the Habitual Criminals Act in preventing J±. the annual invasion by criminals froi» JWt the Commonwealth and its deterrent ef tects on local criminals.
