HOLIDAY FIXTURES.
The principal local atraction for New gear's Day is the opening of the Kecft ation Sports Ground. The whole district has contributed from time to time towards the cost of making the best sports ground in the Dominion upon the s.ic of the old unreliable sports arena of the past. No doubt there will be a big attendance of people to see the fruition of the efforts of the feAV energetic people who took the work in hand, and the committee has provided an excellent programme for their delectation. Straight-out contests of athletic skill and spectacular and" amusing novelties ■should give any amount of entertainment, The Taranaki Lawn Tennis Association's championship nieeting**and handicap tournament continues till Thursday, and iyeommodation is provided for the large numbers of visitors expected on New Year's Day and Thursday, when semi-finals and finals will be reached. I The management has an excellent afternoon tea booth on the ground. The Catholic bazaar will doubtless
draw well on New Year's Day, and more particularly in the evening. The Stratford Racing Club's races will be held Oil Wednesday and Thursday.
