Seven thousand were present at the opening of the Indian National Congresi at Surat, including 2000 delegates. Extremists interrupted speakers wh« were counselling moderation in local matters. Tremendous uproar followed the no- - initiation of Arabinda Ghose as president, chiefly on the pari oT Bengalcsc. Ultimately the sitting was suspended.
