TARAXAKI JOCKEY CLIB. CTIIUSTAIAS MEETING. The Taranaki Joekey Club opened their Christmas meeting in glorious weather. The attendance was well , above the average, and the racing was ■ keen, and at times most exciting. One military bookmaker called the odds, ap- ' I«areiitly doing good business, and his _ [presence was appreciated by the small _•; bettors. The Christmas Handicap provided a stirring contest, the Waverlcv and Waitara Cup winner, Uhlando, scoring a very popular win from Glenullin. The Military Band, numbering about thirty members, enlivened proceedings with a nice selection of musical itcnis, le and their excellent playing was mucli . enjoyed. The course and lawns bore a n ' beautifully- green appearance, being (1 freshened up by the late rains, and the i( secretary and an energetic committee worked hard to make the meeting a thorough success.
