There lias been a vendetta between the familios for generations, and, finally, to wipe it out, they decided to fight in formal fashion. It was arranged that Signor Contl and his twosons should fight Signor Ale*si and his two brothers. The chief square of Comitini was chosen for the encounter, and it was agreed that pistols should be the weapons. Within a few moments of the lieginning of the duel Signor Conti and the two brothers of the Alessi family fell dead, and the three survivors sustained serious wounds. A crowd of inhabitants witnessed the duel. The police force, consisting of two carabiniers, stayed awav until the affair was over.
