DRUCE-PORTLAND CASE.

CASE FOR THE DEFENCE r ' Received 17th, 11.35 p.m. ' London, December 17. Mr Horace Avory contended that every one of the promoters and subscribers of the Druce companies were liable to be prosecuted for champerty and maintenance, and probably the promoters of the companies would iventu'Py.fre charged with conspiracy l,v pre- _ ferring a false claim against the"Portland and other estates, and Hollaiiihy - "*• with conspiracy to falselv accuse defendant*, and swindle the fooii-h sub•eribers.. Defendant was willing, if the interest* of justice demanded, to allow Of the grave to be opened. Catherine Bailey, for manv rears in prate's employ, testified that' he died in ner presence at his Mill Hill residence fa December, 1884. The case was adJonrned until Friday.
