NEW HOSPITAL LEGISLATION.
Mr. C- M. Lepper, secretary of the Tiirmiaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, lias handed us a copy of The Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Bill, to be introduced next session by the Hon. Geo. Fowlds, Minister iu charge of this Department. Copies of the proposed measure have been iorwarded to the various Hospital Boards for consideration. They are asked to formulate any amendments that may suggest themselves, and forward these to headquarters before 31st March next, with a view of submitting the recommendations to a conference of hospital boards delegates in Wellington in June next.
The principal changes in tin; new measure arc tliiit, the elections of future Hoards arc to lie ciirricil out. under the Local Elections Act, IIKM, which means that Ihe voting shall be done liy the electors, abolishing the present system of election liy the contributing local authorities.
Districts are re-const; tulcd. The new Taranaki Hospital District comprises the counties of Clifton. Taranaki, Egmont, Stratford, and llawcra, anil all boroughs therein. This is a reversion to the old order of things, and may be regarded as a protest against the multiplication of hospitals and hospital districts.
Section ii provides that on or before the coming into operation of this Act the (lovernor shall, by Order in Council gazetted, divide each district into such sub-districts, with such boundaries and names as he thinks fit.
