■♦ THE KING'S MESSAGE TO A SHEPHERD OF 102. One of tho King's oldest suhjocts lives in the village of Groat Rollriglit, real Chipping Norton. Oxfordshire. His name is Richard Withers, and he recently celebrated the 102 nd anniversary of his birthday. On this occasion the villagers presented him with a cake, and the church hells rang out a merry peal in his honor. Withers formerly followed tho occupation of shopherd. Ho boasts that until recently, when he had a bilious attack, lie was never in a doctor's hands. A moderate drinker, tho old follow regularly smokes his pipe. He shaves himself twice a week, and is seldom absent [iraii Sunday morning service. Decently a local farmer wrote to. theKing, siring particulars of Withers' history. He lias received the following reply:— nalmoral Castle, Oct. 12, 1)107. Sir, —T am commanded by the King to acknowledge tho receipt of your Iptter. and to request you to convey His Majesty's congratulations to Richard Withers on the attainment of bis hundred and second birthday.
