PUBLIC RECEPTION REFUSED, Sydney, December 13. J. he Lord Mayor of Sydney has ro» iuscu to accord a public reception to Mr fveir Hardie, the English Socialist leader. . Melbourne, December 13. ■' Speaking at his reception at Melbourne Mr. fveir Hardie said socialism stood for the motherhood of the race irrespective of creed or colour.
The laranaki County Council has been asked by the Patangata County Council, Waipukurau, to support the following resolution: "It being reported that Mr. ICeir Hardie intends shortly to visit the Dominion of New Zealand/and in view of his recent utterances while m India, this Council is strongly of opinion that he should receive no official recognition in his public capacity as a member of the British legislature from any local body in the Dominion"
