BREACHES OF SHOPS ACT.

Per Press Association. Wellington, La.;t Night. Two eases under the Shops and unices Act were brought before Dr. McArthur, jS.il., this morning. James Fairway was charged with employing three assistants more than 5Z hours, exclusive of meal-times, during a week in April, i!) 07. Jonathan Jones was charged with a similar oll'ence. The cases had been sent, down from the Appeal Court for a conviction to be recorded. On the first occasion when the Magistrate dealt with the cases he dismissed the information. The cases were carried to the Appeal Court, which reversed the decision of the Magistrate. His Worship this morning convicted both accused, but imposed no penalty. Costs were not allowed.
