T. yuilliam, of Messrs. tlovett and Qunnaiu, lias been appointed a notary public. inspector Wilson, in charge of the \\ anganui-Mew Plymouth police district, is on a visit to .New Plymouth. .Mr. J. A. iianau, M.P. for lnvcrcai'gin, is on an extended visit to Xew Plymouth, lie is the guest of Mr. K. Crockett, Carrington-road. .Mr. \V. T. Jennings, M.P. for Jigmont, returned to New Plymouth last night from a trip to the upper reaches of tlie Wangauui river. The trip, in one of Messrs. Hatrick & Co.'a line river steamers, was made on the invitation of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce. The president and several members of the Chamber and several residents, were of the party, together with Messrs. C. E. Major, M.P. for Hawera; Jlogan, M.P. for Wanganui; A. E. Keinmglon, M.P. for ltangitikci, and, as before mentioned, Mr. Jennings. The hist calling-place was at the new township of Ohutu, 'from which the road leads to tho Ohutu block. The party travelled 45 miles up-river. On tjhe. return journey they touched at Ahuahu, and journeyed live miles inland aloii" the road leading to the centre of the island, and through to Waitotara. there were indications tlut the West Coast members and those representing the central districts of (his islaua are combining with a view of pushing forward public works such as °oads bridges etc., to open up the interior ot' the island and give the settlers there decent access' to the towns. Greater expedition is desired in the matter of extending roads. The trip was the means; of giving opportunity for these munbcis to make friendships and compare notes. It. was in every other way, also very enjoyable, the weather beins perfect and the hospitality of the wL 'sh ami complete.
