Determined ell'orUs were put rortli, wiiu great success, to make the Hospital Saliiruay and .Sunday collections in Wellington this year eclipse all previous collections. lestcrday the passer-by was accosted at every corner bv ladies armed with lied Cross-labelled" boxes, and the persistent collectors were rewarded with a total sum' of £24!). In addition to this, boxes from the various hotels have yet to be emptied. 80 far it is impossible to estimate what this aiicnioon's demonstration on the Basin Reserve -will yield. The various bands of the city and suburbs gave their services and contributed an excellent programme of music. There was a very huge attendance of the public, perhaps live or six thousand, and as the übiquitous lady collectors were as attentive to their task as they were ycjterdav, .1 total collection of a very substantial amount « assured. The crowd this atteruoon was addressed by the Hon. T. W. Ilislop, Mayor of Wellingtu, and the Hon C. M. Luke, M.L.C., Chairman of the Hospital Trustees.
