Hawke's Bay (at Auckland), December 26, 27. and 28; Auckland v. Otago (at Auckland), January 2, 3, and 4. The dubs in the senior grades have Bow played three matches. Eden have won three and scored 7 points; City t-.rn, 5 points; North Shore two, 4 points; Grafton one, 2 points; Parneil one, 2 points; Fonsonby nil, 0 points. The Auckland representative cricketers leave for Christchurch tomorrow in pursuit of the Ranfurly Shield, which was awarded to Canterbury last season. The team is as W. Sale could not set away, and Prime filled the vacancy. The team is abont the best that cm be chosen in Auckland from an nil-muni point of view, and should do well. Great hopes are entertained of the team fitting the shield. The match does not Open until the 14th inst.. so that the wain should become accustomed to the Canterbury wicket before the match. and put in a few days solid practice. The team will return immediately after the match. A good number of local enthusiasts 'arc accompanying ttem.
LAWN TENNIS. The Auckland Lawn Tennis Championships and handicaps tournament will he held in Auckland on January 1, 2. 3. and 4, just after the New Zealand meet igg st New Plymouth. The season here Is bow in full swing, and the annual inter-dub matches are taking place from next Saturday.
BOWLING. Ihe various bowling clubs in Auckland are making preparations for the NX Bowling Association's tournament, to be held in Auckland, commencing on January 6th. The various teams are being got together and practice indulged in. The secretary of the Association advises that he expects record entries. and he believes it will be the largest tournament yet held in the North Island. A meeting of the.local delegates to the Northern Bowling Association was held last evening. A programme of the various events proposed to be carried out WU submitted and discussed, and ordered to be sent to Wellington for eonfirmation. It was announced that Mr. Myera had notified his intention of entertaining the visiting and local bowlers at a harbour excursion on the evening of the first dov of the tournament. January oth. It was decided to offer a citizen's prize, open to members of any dub affiliated to tbe North Island As I eociation. The first prize will be a gold medal and tropin- value £.l 3s to each member of the team, the second priat • gold medal and a trophy value 30s to each member of the team, anil the third prize a trophy value £2 2s to each member. With such handsome prizes, and "the all-round excellence nf the programme, there should be record entries for all events. SWIMMING.
The annual meeting of the delegates to the Auckland Centre of the New Zea land Amateur Swimming Association Wis held last evening. The balancesheet for the past season showed a debit balance on the general account, but the humane branch was in substantial credit. It was announced that three clubs— Waitemata, Y.M.C.A.. and Thames—had already affiliated this seiBon, and it was hoped other clubs would Boon be in existence. It was rc|>orted that the Royal Life Saving Society in London had been written to for information and books on life-saving. An effort will be made to further develop this useful branch of the sport this sea son. It was announced that the local championships would probably be allocated at the next meeting, to be held on the 19th inst. Application has been made for the New Zealand championships. .
