TARANAKI COUNTY COUNCIL.
SPECIAL .MEETING. A special meeting of the Council was held yesterday. I'rescnt—Councillors J. fuown (ehainnanj, it. ,ste\ftns, C. Andrews, G. Tate, J. Hid, A. George, G. -idlam, and At. Hopsou. It was resolved, on the motion of the enairman, seconded by Councillor Andrews, mat an amenuetl special rate ol nve-eighlhs of a penny in the pound be levied and collected over the Ellhaiu fioad special rating area for the period commencing on Uie Ist day ol August, 1007, and ending on the olst day ol July, I'JOS, and payable in two equal instalments.
Councillors Brown, Andrews, and Hill were appointed the Council's representatives on the Hospital Board. THE TAPUAE. The Council decided to pay the sum of £75 18s damages and costs iu the recent Court case, Bartlc Harford v. the Council, t.o the county solicitor, that the same may be paid to the parties lawlully entitled to the amount. The chairman read a report from Foreman Evitts, wherein he stated that the Tapuae bridge was unsafe for the heavy timber loads that were passing over it, and suggested closing the bridge to avoid an accident. In the face of that he could do no other than close the bridge. After considerable desultory, discussion, Councillor George moved that the foreman be directed to metal the Tapuae filling at once with metal from the old road now closed. Seconded by Councillor Tate.—Carried. ft was decided to give the foreman a holiday on the People's Day of the show. Councillor J. Brown was re-elected chairman for the ensuing teriu.-
