DANGEROUS BURGLAR CAUGHT.
Per Press Association. Lytlelton, Wednesday. At the Magistrate's Court, Jauies Wilson, alius diaries Edward Campbell, alias Charles Duncan, admitted having broken and entered a sliop here on the morning of November 2a, and having stolen £ll 17s 7d worth of watches. Details given show that Constable Wilson, who made the arrest, behaved very plnckily. The burglar, when discovered, rushed from the darkness of the shop with a marlin-spike in his hand, and attacked the constable, who, however, was able, after a short struggle, to overcome him, and with the aid of a civilian handcuffed him.
DEATH UNDER CHLOROFORM. Per Press Association. iMastcrton, Wednesday. Peter Jackson, while chloroform was being administered at the hospital this forenoon prior to an operation, two doctors being pr&ieni, became very violent alter the anaesthetic began to take effect, and suddenly collapsed, death taking place immediately.
