TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.

The Taranaki Education Board met last night. Present: Messrs Jas. 'Vy ade (chairman), Adlam, Tisch, Morison, Monkhonse, Trimble, Kennedy, Morton, and Faull. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT. The chairman's report recorded the appointment of Miss L. Hart as assistant at the Norfolk school, and the temporary appointments of Miss Riordan assistant at Ingiewood, and Miss ltigby assistant at Norfolk school. He had taken steps in regard to the Tongaporutu residence, alterations to Stratford residence, and Stanley school. He had communicated with' the Minister upon the Education Act Amendment Bill.—The report was adopted. .MANUAL AND TECHNICAL REPORT. The Chief Inspector reported that since last meeting the following reports had come to hand from the Department:—lnitial grant at Oaonui for agriculture, £5 10s; woodwork room at Stratford, £208; apparatus for Stratford cookery classes, £23; material for cookery classes at New Plymouth, £330 18s 6d. Teachers' examinations in handwork would be held at Stratford on 30th inst., and twenty of the Boards' feathers had sent in applications to sit. Classes at the New Plymouth and Startford technical schools had been closed, and examinations in the various subjects held. lie recommended that as the result of these examinations certificates should be issued, to be presented at an opening ceremony at the beginning of the year. SUMMER SCHOOL. Mr Braik, Chief Inspector under Die Waugauui Education District, invited the Chief Inspector or a teacher as deputy to attend a summer school at Wangauui early in December.—Left in the chairman's hands, with power to act. FINANCE COMMITTEE. The Finance Committee recommended that the present residence at Te Kiri (of two rooms) be enlarged and application be made to the Department for a grant; that the repairs to concrete at the Central School be attended to during the holidays; that the application of the West End Committee for blackboard alterations be acceded to; that the £0 promised be paid to the Tariki Committee for fencing the two and a half acres adjoining the school; that the sum of £0 13s 4d, the Board's share of the cost of shelter shed at Douglas, be paid, and the architect, arrange for the painting of the building; that the Stratford School Committee be granted £5 for the completion of the new iron fence around the Stratford schoolgroiind: that the Inspector provide the Salisbury school with a table for the assistant, but that the Boar,! cannot see its war to grant an additional tank: that an outhouse, costing £lO, be erected at the Toko residence. TEACHERS' SELECTION. The Selection Committee reported that only one application had been received for the position of assistant at Inglewood. The applicant was Mr S. J. Poole, formerly of lluwera, and more recently at the Wellington Training College.—His name will be forwarded to the Committee.

KAHL'I. .Mr .Morgan (teacher at Kahili and Ngnriki) will be aslied to explain his action in" closing the schools without authority on various occasions. RESIGNATIONS. Miss A. Rhodes resigned her position as art instructress.—Left in the chairman's hands.

Miss Alexander, teacher at Dudley school, resigned.—Steps to be taken to fill (lie vacancy. into his charge against the feacher, and TLTUTAWA TROUBLES. After discussion in committee, the Board decided to reply to a letter from Mr Barker, of Tutntawa, that as the school committee had already enquired expressed itself satisfied with Miss Cameron's management of her sehooj, the Board saw no reason to take any action.
