TARANAKI AGRICULTURAL SHOW.

The Taranaki Agricultural Society's committee met last night. There was a full .meeting, Mr. W. Ambury presiding. A letter was received from the Grocers' Association , advising that they would close their shops at noon. The secretary reported that this closing at noon would, be general. The Franklyn (Waikato) association wrote for recommendations of judges, and it was decided to recommend for draughts, Messrs. James Mitchell (Waitara) and A. Alexander; light horses, Mr. P. Watson; dairy stock, including Jerseys and Holsteins, Messrs. F. Cornwall and W. Dew.

It was decided to give special prizes of ,-ei and 10s for the best lady rider in the ladies' leaping competition. Seven new members were elected. The committee went into the matter of paddocking for exhibitors' stock, which will be arriving to-day, and n subcommittee was set up to meet all trains. A large number of nice handy paddocks have been secured by the so'cietv.

Mr. .1. R. Tlill was elected steward foi the weight-guessing competition, It was decided to make the charge for admission one shilling on the Wednesday morning, instead of 2s Cd as previously.

I he entries received are the best on record, the live stock having filled well right through. Horses, cattle, and sheep will make a fine display on the showground. There are about eighty entries in Jerseys alone.

Children will 'have plenty of amusement. Sideshows of all descriptions will be on the grounds on both days. Excursion fares have been arranged and the attendance on People's Bay should, given fair weather, easily constitute a record.

Townspeople intend showing their appreciation of the society's push and energy by „Uendang in force, and we hope the officials' most sanguine expectations will be more than fulfilled
