PARLIAMENT.
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 23. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Per Press Ass.ichliovi The Council resumed at 2.30 p.m. The Railways Authorisation Bill, Reserves and Other Lands Disposal Bill. Landless Natives Bill, Shops and Olliccs Act Amendment Bill, and Water Supply Act Amendment Bill were put through their final stages, and the Council adjourned at 3.30 p.m.
In the Council, the Counties Act Amendment Bill and the Maori Land Claims Adjustment Bill were passed, and I the Council adjourned at 11.50 p.m.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES The House resumed at 2.30 p.m. The Maori Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Bill (washing-up Bill) were put through committee and reported, and the. Home adjourned at (i p.m.
On resuming at 7.30 the Maori Lain Bills were read a third time by 43 to 4
The Supplementary Estimates, pro viding for £04,750, were passed withoul alteration.
The Christchureh District Drainage Bill was reported with amendments, read a third time, and passed. The Whangarei llarlior Bill passed all its stages. The Appropriation Hill, iotal amount C 5.135.872, passed without discussion, and the House adjourned at midnight till 11 a.m. on Monday.
CliOSLVfi COMPLIMENTS. In the House, after the Supplementary Estimates passed, the Premier postponed consideration of the Appropriation Bill to allow the Christchureh Drainage, Murchiston County, Opunuke Harbor, Waimatc North County, and Whangarei Harbor Bills tc be taken in committee.
Some trouble arose over the Murchiston County Bill. Mr. Colviu moved an amendment to clause 2, and was supported by the Hon. Mr. Guinness, but Mr. R. MeKenzie, who was in charge, of the Bill, refused to accept the amendment. As no compromise could be arrived at, the Premier moved to report progress, stating that they would bo unable to finish the Government business otherwise.
Mr. Major urged Mr. McKcnzie to consent to this. Jlr. MeKenzie said he would keep the House till Monday if the motion were carried. He, was entitled to speak a full hour on the Appropriation Bill, and would do so after progress was reported. However, Mr. MeKenzie merely protested against the treatment this Bill received, and the Appropriation Bill passed without discussion. At 11.50 p.m. the Premier announced that lie could not get back amendments from the Council in time to finish, and moved that the House sit on Monday at 11 a.m. As many members would be going away on Sunday, he desired to take the opportunity to thank Mr. Massey and members for their courtesy during the session. He was sorry to
lose them, although very glad that thej would be able to get to their homes again after an arduous session's work, and he hoped to see them all looking well and happy on their return next
session, and in conclusion they had his best wishes for their welfare. Mr. Massey, on behalf of his side, f hanked the Premier for his kindly expressions, which were appreciated and reciprocated.
