WOMEN'S FRANCHISE.

MR UALDANE INTERVIEWED. STUDENTS DISPERSE A MEETING. London, November 21. A deputation of suffragettes interviewed the Hon. R. B. Haldane at Sheffield. He explained that personally he favored the extension of the franchise to women, but refused to promise that the subject would be mentioned in the King's Speech at the opening of Parliament. He characterised the interruptions at meetings as a deplorable piece of folly. Many suffragettes were ejected from his meeting. Two hundred students, carrying whistles, rattles, bells, etc., prevented Miss Pankhurst addressing a meeting of suffragettes at Birmingham Finally they dispersed the meeting by generating quantities of sulphuretted hydrogen. Miss Pankhurst threatened that hundreds of .suffragettes would confront the Hon. H. H. Asquith if he spoke at Birmingham.
