It is expected that work will be resumed on Monday. Some pits might start on Thursday." ' i Mr Wade stated late last night that it seemed to him a fair and honorable compromise had been reached, which: there should be no difficulty in either side accepting. He could not help feeling from the general tenor of negotiations" that the dispute was very close to a settlement. Advices from Newcastle show that Instructions nave lieen issued to the different pits to be in readiness to resume work. This is taken as an additional indication that a settlement is in sight, and that the proprietors' meeting today will accept the basis of the settlemen*. : ! T.'HHMI
