LONDON MARKETS. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S ADVICE. Per Press Association. Wellington, Monday. The mutton market is quiet but •steady, Stocks of New Zealand are light and firmly held in few hands. River Plate mutton is in large supply, being strongly pushed for sale. Canterbury mutton 3%d, North Island 3%d. There is a good demand for all lamb, considering the lateness of the season. Canterbury 5%d, other than Canterbury 5y b d. The beef market in dull, and supplies of River Plate are heavy. Hindquarters 3Vvid, forequarters 2%d.
The butler market is firm and the demand good in anticipation of small arrivals for some time, although buyers I are holding back, expeeting prices to go lower. Choicest New Zealand 118s, Argentine 120*, Danish 1226, Siberian 110s. The cheese market is quiet, with less demand. Canadian manufactures average 02s per cwt. The hemp market is quiet aud prices irregular, as the demand is principally for speculation. New Zealand good fair on spot is quoted at £3O, fair in same position £2B 10s, both nominal Nothing is offering here. January to March shipments are quoted, good fair grade £2B 10s, fair £27, fair current Manila £2l) 10s. A large supply is expected. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and buyers are not keen to do business. Prices are firm at 7os per cwt. The following are current quotations for Bradford tops: 36's (low crossbreds) lb 2%d, 40's (low crossbreds) Is 3>/,d, -W's (medium crossbreds) Is 4'/ad, iiO's (halfbreds) Is lOd, 56's (quarterbreds) 2s, 00 s (merinos) 2s 3%d. WELLINGTON WOOL SALES. Dalgetv and Co., Ltd., report having held their lirst wool sale of the season in the concert-room of the Town Hall. The total offering from all brokers was 1700 bales, to which we contributed (Ml bales. The total number of bales offered would have been considerably larger but for the bad weather which has prevailed during the past few weeks. There was a representative attendance of English, foreign, and local buyers. The sale was by no means an animated one, and a fair proportion of aJI catalogues was passed in under the hammer, owing to tin' difference in margin between ideas (if buyers and sellers. Prices offered by buyers were on a par with the latest advices from London. Crossbred wools >i ail descriptions showed a decline of 1 '/.-d to 2d per lb as compared with the corresponding sale of last season; halfbred wools were very much on a par with la.-t November rates for best quality, but inferior halfbred showed a
