The office of Mr. Lyon, soli- 'i citor, on one side and the Singer Sewiiif „ Machine Company's shop on the other , were also destroyed. The block of build- „ ings opposite lnul a narrow escape. The unoccupied shop and dwelling had just ( been purchased by Mr. Tingey,' of Waujranui, who intended to "open a branch business in Marton. It was in- M sured in tlie Standard for £3OO. The *' Singer Sewing Machine shop, owned by " Mrs. K TT. Humphrey, was insured for ,T| .1100, and Mr. Lyon's office, also owned '' by Mrs. Iliunplirey, was insured for £SO, both in the Commercial Union. I he Dresden Piano Company's shop was partly burned.
