He has a beautiful head, and eyes characteristic or courage and endurance, a good neck and crest, well-sprung Tibs, remarkably good loins and strong short-coupled bajk. His action, both at the walk and trot, Is all that can be desired. Altogether ho is a most compactly-built, weli-pat-toge-ther specimen of a draught horse: Lord Erskine was bred by if. S. Holmes of Awarnoa. Oamaru, and is by the imported Biro "Sandy Erskine," who is the sire of the well-known champion rnaro, "Lady Erskine"—owned by A. Alexander, Esq., Normsjiby, Tartmski—the dam of the champion two-year-old colt, Marcellus, recently purchased by W. Taylor, Esq., Te Awamutu, at tho record price of 750 guineas. Lord Erskine's Dam, Pearl 11., is by tho famous sire, Crown Prince, grand dam Sapphire, dam of AccuunUni, inner of numerous fust prizes'; this mare has only been beaten by her Btable companion's great grand dam, Pearl, a mare specially selected by the late J. B. Blair, and iin- . ported on account of the late Hon. Matthew Holmes. From the foregoing it will be seen that Lord Erskine is descended from the very best blood of good breeding strains, and he is certain to prove a getter of the best type of Clydesdales. His show ring successes prove him to be a horse of individual high-class merit. In 1906 he gained the following awards: At Asliburton, firet and champion; at the International Show, Christchurch, second prize and reserve champion, also first prize for best stallion in the walking competition (beating the champion stallion Pride of Newton), and first prize for Lord Rothschild's silver bowl for the best Colonial-bred Btallion (Shire or Clydesdale) by an imported eire, thus gaining the highest number of awards at the Show. Judge Belden, sire of Count Belden, was sold with a public trial of 2.17, and was 'the most handsome stallion that ever left America. At the Royal Agricultural Show, Sydney, N.S.W., he gained First and Champion Prizes thret years in succession. Judge Belden (imp.) is the sire of Bellman, winder of the Auckland Trot, Canterbury Victoria Handicap, and Progressive Handicap in 1898, and the Auckland Electric rot in 1897. Duke C., out of the same dam as Count Belden (imp.), won Epsbm Trot of two miles, time 5.7%; June Handicap and Glasgow Trot, at Auckland. COUNT BELDEN cannot be beaten for getting Carriage Horses and Hackneys of the right stamp, as his size and breeding must prevail in leaving good stock and fast trotters.
