A somewhat dramatic incident occurred at the dose of the Une- > hunga Steeplechase. This event, after I a game struggle, jgis won by the aged | Nor'-West, and the victory proved a , popular one. Horse and rider received j a great ovation on returning to the scales. Before lie reached the enclosure, 1 however, Nor'-West dropped dead. City Handicap, one mile and a-quartcr. —Downfall 1, Te Aroha 2, Uhlander 3. All started. Won by a length, with half a length between second and third. Time, 2min lOsec. Dividends, £2 2s and £1 183. Also started: Ipniskillen, Romany Lad, Khama, and All Fours. Won by three lengths, with fifteen lengths between second and third.
