WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13. | LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Tlie Council met at 2.30 p.m. Leave of absence was granted the ITon. O. Samuel till tlie end of the session owing to illness. The following Bills from the House wtre read a first time:—The Railways 'lmprovement Authorisation Act Amendment Bill, Butter .Export Bill, Hospital and Charitable Institutions Amendment Bill, Defence Act Amendment Bill, and L'leur and Other Products .Monopoly Prevention Bill; were further considered in committee, reported with amendments, juid read a third time and passed. Tlie Council adjourned at 8 till 7.30. ; The" Council resumed at 7.30 p.m. The Coal Mines Act Amendment Bill was put through all its stages.
The Sea Fisheries Act Amendment Bill was read a second time, committed, and reported with slight amendments and ptssed. The Council rose at 10 p.m. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Tn the House, the Stock Act Amendment Bill was read a first time and referred to the Agricultural Stock Committee. The whole afternoon was devoted to discussion of questions and replies. The House adjourned at 5.30 p.m. On the House resuming, the Chinese Immigrants Amendment Bill, Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Act Amendment Bill, Co-operative Dairy Companies Bill, Beer Duty Act Amendment Bill. Post Office Act Amendment Bill, Statutes Repeal Bill, and Parliamentary and Executive Titles Bill were read a second time. The nouse went into committee on the Chinese Immigrants Bill. A new clause was included, on the Premier's motion, exempting Chinese preachers duly accredited to the satisfaction of the Colonial Secretary from the operations of the Bill.
