WHAT'S WANTED as a yearling gained first prize at the Egmont A. and P. Society's Show, and lirst prize as a two-year-old at the Taranaki Metropolitan Show. His sire, Armadale, was got by that celebrated breeding and show-ring sire Glengyle, out of the fine breeding mare Nancy, who was shown until 13 years ol age, and was never beaten in her class, She won nine first and four champion prizes. Duchess of Alexander's gr. dam, Jenny, was ofie of the best draught mares ever bred or imported to the colony, being dam of the New Zealand and Australian champion mare, Flower of Balmoral. His dam, Duchess of Alexandra, was a most successful prize-winner, havin gained the following prizes, viz.:— First and champion at Tapanui ('South Island) as a two-year-old, First prize at -Egmont A. and P. So ciety's Show. First and champion at Wanganui. First and champion at Taranaki. First prize as brood mare and champion prize as best draught mare or filly at Taranaki Metropolitan Show. New Plymouth, 1900. From the foregoing it will be seen that WHAT'S WANTED'S breeding cannot be surpassed, and ho is certain to prove himself a getter oi the ver best type of Clydesdales. VICTORY is a brown horse, with a small white star and black-points, foaled in J 1)03, standing 15.2 and showing great quality and substance. His cannon-bone measures S'/Jn. He is a very stylish mover and possessed of a beautiful temper. His sire, Vanity Fair, represents the third generation of a brilliant line of sires, bred by Mr. Burdett Coutts, wherein the notorious high-stepping Norfolk blood of old Confidence has been hardened and improved in size, bone, and quality by successive crosses of Trillit's Fireaway, the great Yorkshire sire. His dam, Vanity, is by Vigorous (1215 E. 11.5.8.) out of Louely (048 E. 11.5.8.). Vigorous is also the grandsire of that celebrated hackney, Hedon Squire (14:100), the property of Sir Walter Gilbcy, Dart. This famous hackney, besides winning innumerable firsts, championships, gold medals, and cltallenge cups at the principal horse shows in Europe, scored such phenomenal success at the Paris International Horse Show in 1000, where, besides winning 3 gold medals, 7500 francs in prizes, and being first and champion of his class, he was awarded the Grand Championship for the best horse at the Show, all classes and breeds included.
