TREASURE QUEST.

ATTEMPT TO RAISE SIXTY TWO SHIPS SUNK AT NAVARINO. ROMANTIC SEARCH.

An attempt is to lie made by a London syndiaite to recover tn .-.mre valued at nairly £1,000,000 from tho sixty-two ships sunk eighty years ago during the battle of Navarino.

A concession from the Greek Government has been obtained by this syndicate, which is registered as The Navarino and General Salvage Company, Limited. For eighty years the tsixty-two ships of the Turko-Egyptian fleet- sunk by the attTpd-wuJ. forces of E.igiai.J, and Russia liave lain undisturbed lit the bottom of the bay, but now a determined attempt is to be made to reiloat them, li is proposed to raise the vessels bodily, and to recover the valuable copper and oak of which they are built, and the treasure guns, and other articles known to have been on board them.

It is regarded as beyond question that the Turko-Egyptian ships carried a very large quantity of treasure, consisting of loot token by raiding the coast towns of the Morea, and specie, estimated at £(.56,000, for the payment of the crews and the numerous troops upon the waT vessels.

It is believed that the greater part of the treasure, was carried -upon the flagships, and as two large vessels, believed to be the ships of the Turkish and Egyptian admirals, have been located, the prospects for tho recovery of the wealth arc regarded as hopeful. On all the Turkish, and on many of the Egyptian vessels were bronze cannon, worth from £IOO to £3OO apiece. According to Admiral Codrington's despatches, there were 1,700 guns in all upon the sunken vessels.
