Over £4l) was 'taken at the door, exclusive of tickets presented. The dress circle uud stage were crowded with, onlookers, the lloor with, dancers. The juveniles had the iloor for the lirst part ul' the evening, and evidenly enjoyed themselves to tile full. Their clever dancing gave an indication of hours of patient instruction received at the bands of voluntary teachers for weeks past, whilst the dressing was pretty indeed. The (J rand March was the npi'ckcle of the evening, and the perfection of the movements reflected in 110 small degree upon the instruction given by Miss Humphries. His Worship the Mayor prescntej tile prizes won as follows: —Girls —Best fancy dress, "Hiss A. Wright (Dresden shepherdess); best original costume, Miss Nellie Eva (Vivandiere) and Adelina (ltoman peasant girl), eijual; special prize to Miss (,'oonibes (washerwoman). Boys—Best fancy /Jwtume, Master Leo. Richards (.Napoleon Bonaparte); best original costume, Master Arthur Thompson (baker). Mesdames B. Coek, Goldwater, and Morrison were Hie judges. The boys' fancy dresses were not very 1111meroous- Mr Rockrill at this stage tendered the thanks of the Now lJlymouth Fire Brigade to the public for their record attendance, which showed ;hat the brigade was still as popular as )f yore, and that the people appreciated its usefulness and ita services in the past, which might well be taken as a .!' :pi>V augury for the future. He also I hanked (lie ladies' committee, all helpers. and tile judges. A special word should be said for Mr and Mrs Dan. O'Brien, who were leaving the town, and the committee wished also to thank those generous residents for willing and munificent assistance for some, years past. HiS Worship said that many a year would roll ere the names of 'Mr and Mrs O'Brien were forgotten, particularly.- m the realms of sport. Three ringing cheers for them were given. Then the juveniles went to Supper, and the adults tonic the floor to excellent music provided by Mr Roiuitree's orchestra. As with the. yonng folks, an excellent supper was provided by the ladies, who had canvassed the town. The supper-room and taldes were decorated in scarlet azaleas by Mrs !•'. 14. Clarke.
