FLAX SWAMP ON FIRE.
Per Press Association. ISlenheim, Wednesday. A tire, fanned by a strong north-west wind, -.wept the Marshlands flax swamp yesterday afternoon, binning about 500 tons of Has which was ready to cut and a cpiantily of other flax. Mr. Chaytor. the owner, estimated his loss at nearly CHUM. A large gang of men fought Unfile all the afternoon, and succeeded ill saving a portion of the flax. The fire afterwards cussed a big' ditch into a raupo -wainp and a Maori pah, where a larg" area was swept, but the damage done Mas uuinip'irl.int.
