ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
Per Press Association. Waipawa, Wednesday. At Fairfield Gilbert Broad, aged 21, shot himself in the right temple. He was removed to the hospital in a critical condition.
Wellington, Wednesday. J. Upritchard, contractor, of Greytown North, was drowned in the Hunmalnmga river at Firinoa. Upritchard and a companion named Myers were crossing the river. A heavy wind was blowing. The boat began to fill, and l.'piiteliard jumped out and commenced to swim ashore. A man named Clarkson (who is ill) sent off another boat, but it could make no headway. He then gallantly swam out and got within a yard of Upritchard, when the latter suddenly sank, ■ The body has not been rccoverod. Deceased, who was highly respected, leaves a widow and four children,
Wellington, Last Night. A married man named William Aire, a wharf laborer, was knocked off his meyele and kicked by a horse.this evening. He is in hospital suffering from concussion of the brain.
