Bigg resumed the debate on the second reading of the Land Bill. The Council adjourned at 5 till 7.30. The Council resumed at 7.30. The Land Laws Amendment Bill was read a second time on the voices, and ; put through committee unamended. The Council rose at 11.45. HOUSE OP REPRESENTATIVES. In the House, the Maori Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Kill was read a second time pro forma and referred to the Native Affairs Committee. The Gaming and Lotteries Act Amendment Bill was read a second time pro forma and referred to the Select Committee. The Flour and Other Products Monopoly Prevention Bill was read a second time pro forma and referred to the Industry and Commerce Committee. The Harbors Bill was read ft second time pro forma and referred to a select ■committee. ! The to Settlers Act Amend- ; ment Bill, the Hutt Railway and Roads Improvement Bill, Post Office Savings ! Amendments to the Education Act, Hospital Act, Public Health Act, Defence Act, Butter Export Bill, Divorce Act Amendment Bill, Railways Classification, Post and Telegraphs Classification, Civil Service Classification, Infant Life Protection, Arbitration Act Amendment Bill, Beer Duty Bill, a Bill dealing with packet licenses, Shops and Offices Act Amendment Bill, a- Bill 'dealing with postage stamp machines, Reserves Vesting Bill, Native Land Bill, and a few other Bills of a local character. The Public Works Statement would be delivered on Friday evening. He thought the House ought to .be able to debate it on the following Monday evening by a suspension of the Standing Orders to allow business to go through more quickly. He thought tlte business could be completed by Wednesday, November 20. The Premier said he would make a stafement regarding the Meikle Bill tomorrow. The House resumed at 7.80. The Police Offences Bill, Supremo Court Practice and Procedure Acts Amendment Bill, and Marine Insurance Bill were taken in committee and reported without amendments. The Animals Protection Bill from the Council was read a first time. Amendments to the Fire Brigades Bill were brought down by Governor's Message, and referred to the committee on the Bill. The House, in committee, considered the Fire Brigades Bill. After an amondment, moved by Mr Field, that two or more bodies be allowed to combine in order to derive the advantages of the Bill had been carried bv 32 to 2!), progress was reported, and 'the Taumaranui Town Council Election Valida? tion Bill was reported without amendment. The Scaffolding Inspection Act Amendment Mil, and Coalmines Act Almendment Bill were reported with amendments.
