Miss M. Bollinger, teacher at tlic Central school, as absent on aick leave, Mr Butcher, relieving teacher, has been unable, on account of illness, to I'll V llis tcm P orar y appointment at the lnglewood school, Mr W. Wilkes, of Waitara, and forinojjy of New Plymouth, lias been appointed solicitor to the Clifton County Council. Miss Hart, of the lnglewood School teaching staff, has been selected as assistant at the Norfolk road school, and will tnlcc up licr new duties with the commencement of the new school year. Mrs. E. \v. Mills, who died at Wellington on Sunday, was the eldest •laughter of Captain John Faithful I'lii'tescue "W right, of the Royal Marines, and niece of Captain Francis Liardct, of the navy, who eanie out as the 'first agent of the Jfew Zealand Company, in charge ol the Taranaki district. Captain Liardet was subsequently invalided ironic, as a result of the loss of his eyesight owing to the bursting of a cannon which was mounted for fortification purposes against the Maoris. 'the Clifton County Council on Friday recognised the excellent work of the chairman. Mr. ,J. W. Foreman, and voted him an honorarium of .£25. But for the immense tract of country to be adminison a very slender income, the eouneillnrs would have made a vote more commensurate with the value of Mr. Foreman's services, for the chairman de\otes a large amount of time to the county work, and is particularly well versed In tho local needs of his district,
