PRESBYTERIAN GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The opening session of the Presbyterian General Assembly of New Zealand was held in St. John's Church to-night. About two hundred and fifty delegates are attending the Asseinbly, which will sit for about a week. The retiring Moderator, the Rev. G. B. Monro (Remuera) conducted the opening part of the devotional exercises, and preached i a sermon dealing mainly with the dutieß of the ministry. The retiring Moderator proposed the election of the Rev. Alexander Don, of Dunedin, as his successor. He spoke of the large amount of work, particularly correspondence, attached to the position, and expressed the hope that the time was not far distant when the church would be able to relieve the Moderator from all church work, and allow him to engage in the public work < of the church for the year following his election. The election was carried unanimously. After the new Moderator had delivered his inaugural address, it was decided that a message of sympathy be sent to Dr. Sidey, of Napier, who was unable to attend owing to illness. Having agreed to the standing orders and appointed committees, the Assembly ad-' journed until the morning.
