LOCAL AND GENERAL.
We have received a copy of the first of next year's calendars from the local agent of the South British Insurance Company (ilr JO. P. Webster). Mr. .1. G Smith, Registrar, supplies the following particulars of the vital statistics of New Plymouth for the month of October:—Births 37, marriage 10, deaths J. There were also registered three births and eight deaths from outside the borough.
"Be sure your sin will find you out." A lad on horseback, proceeding around the corner of Devon and Brougham streets yesterday "at other than a walking pace," landed on the road, the pony's feet slipping on the woeden crossing. He escaped injury.
Miss C. IL Retford and Mr 11. Dempsey, ratepayers of the Henui district, of which but a small portion waa left after the formation of the Fitzroy town district, have petitioned the Ojunty Council to abolish the Honui road district and to merge it into the county. The following letters, received from beyond the Dominion, are unclaimed at the Chief Post OWice, New Mr S. J, Adams, J. Atkinson, Miss Auckland, Angus Campbell, 11. Ileslop, Miss Eva Harris, 11. E. Hill, Riss. Langton, Mrs Robbie, Mrs Wiley, J. W. Atkinson, Miss A. Biscoe, Mrs James Christie, It. E. Gordon, Will. Hardy, J. M. Hattrick, Mrs Pearson, Herbert Rogers, John Walker. In answer to the Taranaki County Council's resolution urging the Government to proceed with the Model Bylaws Bill this session, Hon. James McGowan, Minister for Public Works, has written to Mr W. .Symes, M.H.R., that the Government is fully alive to the importance of this measure, but owing to the very large amount of legislation to be dealt with, it is somewhat doubtful if the Bill can be proceeded with this year.
