THREATENED COAL STRIKE
Sydney, November 1. The conference Iwtween the eollicry owners and representatives of the miners resulted in a deadlock. The Meeting abruptly broke up. The owners intimated that the present conditions of the coal trade rendered it impossible to raise the price beyond lis per ton. They declined to at'.auce the hewin» late more than 4d per ton, or to concede the other demands. The miners will meet to-morrow to discuss the situation. Both sides profess great firmness.
