The chairman said the abolition of the duty in Xew Zealand, excepting that it might possibly create a larger demand, would not alter the position, as sugar-refining had never been protected in X'ew Zealand. The present Wop, he added, was heavy, but the drought both in Australia and Fiji was likely to. have a bad effect on the next year's output.
