SEVERE EARTHQUAKE.

TlHiiday Island! October 29. Bmn ewtlwulcea have been experienced here. Tlic first shock, was at ti.lo a.m. yesterdaj. It was accompanied by a noise similar to that of the discharge of maxim gone. It lasted six seconds. Lighter shocks and subterranean explosions followed np to 7-30 a-m. The movement was from north-east to oonth-west. The area affected extended from Goode Island to Cape York. There was no damage at Thursday Island. At Goode Island the lighthouse reservoirs fell and broke the concrete foundation This "started" all the light ironwork. A later report states that there was • severe shake at Booby Island, though no damage was done.
