TIIE LABOR PARTY'S LOSS, I ■MR. WATSON'S RETIREMENT. Received Oct. 24, 1.5 a.m. Melbourne, October 23. A protracted meeting of the Labor Party discusseil -Mr. Watsorfs retirement. Strong efforts were made to induce him to retain the leadership, but they were unavailing, and it was finally decided to accept his resignation with deep regret. The appointment of a successor was deferred for a week. Mr. Watson remaim a member of the party. It is considered probable that Mr. Fisher, deputy leader, will be appointed to the leadership.
