Per Press Association. ' Feilding, Last Night. ' At the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, before Mr. A. D. Thomson, to-day, John i Gaseoigne, weightman, was committed for trial on a charge of perjury in giving evidence in the recent case of the Polios v. Lowe and Robinson. Bail was allowed, self in £IOO and two sureties of £SO each. George Cowan, charged with stealing £l3 from David Morgan, was ■ also committed for trial. ' Wellington, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day .i James McAHion was committed for trial. :> on a charge of attempting to murder : Thomas Jackson Smith. An altercation *" had taken place at the gate of Smith's ' home, and it is alleged accused flrefl ft ■ number, of revolver shots. Smith was not hurt. Wellington, Wednesday, Edward Murtagh, a jockey, charged with wounding an infant named Tul Leigh, was committed for trial. Ball - was allowed. Invercargill, Last Night. At the Otautau Magistrate's Court ' to-day, Thomas Beck, for having exposed for sale lice-infected sheep, was 'fined £3 and costs. Thomas Steele and James Gordon, butchers, were each fined £2 and costs for having allowed swine to be fed on unboiled offal. Gordon was further charged (1) with allowing offal and filth to remain in a slaughterhouse more than twenty-Jour hours, (2) failing to. wash the floors, etc., of his slaughtering-place immediately after killing, arid (3) failing to keep thor. oughly clean all Knives and Other instruments of slaughter. He was convicted and discharged.
