PARLIAMENT.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 23. LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Per Press Association. Wellington, Lust Night. ]u the Council, which met at 2.30, the following local bills from the House were read ii second lime: —Taranaki Botanic Harden Amendment, Wanganui Harbor, Levin Borough Reserves Vesting ancl Empowering, (lore Agricultural ami Pastoral Vesting and Enabling, Whnngamoinona County, Nelson Hospital and Charitable Aid Board Empowering, Thames Harbor Board, Tapanui Hospital Reserve Vesting, Otago Harbor Board Kiupowering. The (lore and Nelson Bills were put through committee stages unamended. The debate on the Coal Mines Act Amendment Bill was continued, and the Council adjourned at 5.30 until 7.30. On resuming at 7.30, the Council went into committee on the Animals Protection Bill, Progress was reported, and I the Council rose at 10.30.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. ALLEGED BREACH OP PRIVILEGE. In the House, Mr. Gray brought under notice what he considered a breach of privilege, in that Sir. Gasquoiue, a witness before tile A to L Committee, had divulged to an ollicial oi tne Slate Coal Department, ChrisU-hurch, certain matters that had come before the committee. A long discussion followed, ancl eventually the Premier's motion that a copy of the statement made by Mr. Gray be forwarded to Mr. Ga-squoine, with a request for an explanation, was agreed to on the voices. The remainder of the afternoon was occupied in discussing answers to questions. The House adjourned at 5.30 p.m. In the evening Mr. James Allen resumed the debate on the National Endowment Bill. The debate is proceeding.
