SLUMP IN FLAX MARKET.
Per Press Association. Wellington, Tuesday. Rumors of a slump in the llax industry are strengthened by the opinion expressed to-day to a Post reporter by) Mr. Hankins, Government flax grader. The market, he says, is weaker than It lias been for some time. Good fair, quality is only bringing £25 10s per ton here, and it costs the Manawatu ilaxmiller about £26 per ton to produce. Some millers are bound to close down unless there is a change for the better. 'There is one compensation that I must mention," said Mr. Hankins. . "The qualiEy of the flax arriving now is muott better."
