Wheat sold to-day at 5s 7d. TUe Bureau of Statistics estimates that 2600 acres more wheat has been eat for hay this year than last Thu, added to the smaller area sown, will reduce the area cat for grain by 234,700 acres. In the faca of this rather gloomy otttloofc, it is some compensation to famr that Mr Virfue does not think it M«ly that bread will become anv dearer than it is at present. With the high Brie# for flour and forage, and the excn amount of money on his books, the baker, Mr Virtue thinks, must be having a bod time.
