His sire, Armadale, was jut by that celebrated breeding and how-ring sire Glengyle, out of the fine needing mare Nancy, who was shown uitil 13 years of age, and was never jeatcji in her class. She won nine first uul four champion prizes. Duchess of Alexander's gr. dam, Jenny, vas one of the best draught mares ever nod or imported to the colony, being lam of the New Zealand and Australian ■hampion mare, Mower of Balmoral. His dam, Duchess of Alexandra, was i most successful prize-winner, having jamed the following prizes, viz.:— and champion at Tapanui ('South Island) as a two-year-old. -First prize at Egmont A, and P.' TO Stand this Season at his Owner's Farm, on the Mangawhero road, Riverlea, the Imported Hackney Stallion VICTORY. By Vanity Fair (6224, 15.H.5.8,), out of Vanity (11539, E.H.5.8.). VICTORY is a brown horse, with a small white star and black points, foaled in 1003, standing 15.2 and showing great quality and substance. Ilis cannon-bone measures B'/ 2 in. He is a very stylish mover and possessed of a beautiful temper. His sire, Vanity Fair, represents the third generation of a brilliant line of sires, bred by Mr. Burdett Coutts, wherein the notorious high-stepping Norfolk blood of old Confidence has been hardened and improved in size, bone, and quality by successive crosses of Triffit's Fireaway, the great Yorkshire sire. His dam, Vanity, is by Vigorous (1215 E. 11.5.8.) out of Lonely (048 E. 11.5.8.). Vigorous is also the grandsire of that celebrated hackney, Hedon Squire (14300), the property of Sir Walter Gilbcy, Bart. This famous hackney, besides winning innumerable firsts, championships, gold medals, and challenge cups at the principal horse shows in Europe, scored such phenomenal success at the Paris International Horse Show in 1900, where, besides winning 3 gold medals, 7500 francs in prizes, and being first and champion of his class, lie was awarded the Grand Championship for the best horse at the Show, all classes and breeds included.
